Tony Soprano Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) Violent, edgy and aggressive, part of what constitutes Tony's appeal is that he tries so hard to make an immediate impression. As head of the Sopranos family at home, and acting head of the crime family, he strives hard to balance efficiency in his work (involving some very difficult decisions) with stability in his family - and frequently fails at both. Although he doesn't find it hard to initially get close to people - see his initial firm friendships with colleagues like Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero, his close relationship with his psychiatrist, Dr Jennifer Melfi, and his numerous affairs - he inevitably pushes these people away through duty and action - Salvatore ends up dead, Dr Melfi and Tony suffer an increasingly complicated relationship, and his flings never last. In addition to this, his increasing alienation from his family forces them to push him away. A violent, imposing and ferociously intelligent man who lets his head and business sense often rule - and break - his heart, it's no surprise that he finds himself susceptible to panic attacks. » Soprano Cast |
